Holiday Greetings  from Rock Eddy Bluff Farm in the Ozark hills.  Kathy and Tom and all the critters wish you a wonderful holiday season.   May you find peace and a sense of  renewal to start the new year.

The hills have put away their greenery for the winter now, and that comfortable feeling of solitude is descending into the barren woods and across the brown valley below.  Even the river seems more tranquil.  Inside, the wood fire is burning steadily.  The season is one which lends itself to reflection and casting away accumulated stresses from the warmer months..  Walks in the woods end with a gentle anticipation of the warmth indoors and the comfort of a good book.  We invite you to come and share the many joys of winter at Rock Eddy.

We know our guests won't mind if we share their feelings.  Recent Thanksgiving guests who have returned for many visits left the following:  "We have danced on the bluff with moss and juniper berries and we have known joy. /  We have sat together around a fire under a star-embedded sky, and we have known love. /  We have meditated on creation within sunny limestone caves and we have known peace."  Stuff like that gives us a warm feeling to begin the holidays.  Thanks J.T. for sharing!

A perfect gift .. quick!  Gifting is easy if you give a certificate for a getaway at Rock Eddy Bluff Farm.  We'll  mail them out post hasteThere are two ways to purchase a gift certificate: call us at 1-800-335-5921 or order on-line at by clicking here, on the gift image, or at our website,  rockeddy.com.

No Name Cabin No, it isn't finished yet.  Yes, we are still taking your name suggestions...  remember?  Win a stay at the  cabin when it is completed.  Just send us an email to hosts@rockeddy.com and let your imagination run. We offer two reasons why the work is going slowly:   It is much more work than we anticipated, and we have been dawdling at bit. Perhaps laziness overcomes us at the no name cabin. Folks who see it want to be among the first to stay there.  The view of the valley from the porch swing is awesome.

Easy salmon chowder recipe hits the spot in winter.    It is a yum yum dish and will bring compliments. And, it's so easy!   To try it yourself Click Here.

The old ways are fun....sometimes!    Witness the number of guests that love our 1880's Line Camp Cabin.  Here is a fun website to educate you on some of those old methods.  Want to make sauerkraut this winter? Make soap, butter, cure a ham, build an outhouse?  Remembrances of olden times are included too.  It has been said that when a person dies, a library burns.  This site attempts to record many of the old ways and stories from our now-gone relatives.  You'll find the Old Timers Page at http://waltonfeed.com/old/index.html

Memories of last fall linger into winter as gentle recollections beside the wood stove.  In golden October we took a few days just tfall 0316 brush.jpg (216799 bytes)o ourselves.  We stayed in the old cabin to watch the leaves fall, cooked over an open fire, and took long rides in our horse-drawn spring wagon.  It was rejuvenating.  It was our own small vacation without leaving the place.   Here is what we think is a fetching photo of one of our wagon rides.  Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Clear, cold nights are tops for star gazing. Here in the country, observing the multitude of stars and constellations is easier because of the reduced light pollution from towns.  But on good, clear nights you should see landmarks in the heavens from almost anywhere.  This handy website allows you to enter your location plus the date and time, then shows you what you can find above you.  http://www.heavens-above.com  Have fun!

Happy Holidays from the Ozark hills,
