Across The Fence

April 2002
Color Me Green. Look at the picture below, taken from our deck in early March. Now color it in your mind -- or wait until
nature does it later this month. The transformation never fails to inspire a sense of awe. The world comes alive again. Reminds me of a line from Edna St. Vincent Millay: "....yearly down this hill, April comes like and idiot, babbling and strewing flowers." Look elsewhere on this page for a spring photo and find the hidden morsel (a morel) tucked into the leaves.
Life's Little Pleasures. The other day I was asked by a marketing person if I could detect any changes in guest's behavior since the September tragedies. I said that I had these hard-to-prove observations: Many folks seem to now feel that they will have their enjoyments rather than put them off as they may have before 9/11. Folks are "permitting" themselves more of life's little pleasures. Perhaps it stems from a new realization that life is tenuous and you must live more in the "now."
Living More In The Now has become something of a mantra for the two of us since the death of my brother showed us the error of our ways several years ago. That's why, when you check our availability calendar, you may find blocks of days showing all accommodations filled. That's us taking our little pleasures. That's us living in the "now," rather than waiting for some time in the dim future. We've become converts!
The Trans-Canada Railroad was our late-winter adventure. After nearly a week enjoying the run from Toronto to Vancouver, we can recommend it highly. We snaked through Ontario, slipped across the prairie provinces, then followed the rails up into the Canadian Rockies where we stopped to play a while. It fulfilled a life-time yen of mine. Arriving on the west coast, there were several wonderful, sun-filled days in the islands and Olympic mountains before our time ran out and we returned to the comfort of our own Ozark hills. Should you want to take the trip sometime, we'd be glad to share what we learned.
Our log new/old log cabin is progressing at a pace befitting the Ozark hills. Slow!! The logs are stacked, the second story floor is in. Yet to come: The roof and lots more stuff (Loads of work, so don't plan your getaway
there just yet.) Keep the name suggestions coming for the cabin (win a getaway).
Guests are booking farther ahead. That seems to be one result from our planning calendar, begun last fall on the Rock Eddy Bluff Farm website.
The good and the bad: finding available dates is much easier, but it means you may need to plan farther ahead for the accommodation and dates you want. The link to the availability calendar is always available on the website www.rockeddy.com or go directly to the calendar by clicking on the blue button.
Simpler Times. We've all come a long way from the days when the news from home was about Chester's best hound dog sleeping in the road. Yet, if you are like us, we sometimes daydream about those old days.
Things were less complicated...more easy-going. If you yearn for simpler living, or just want ideas to help uncomplicate your life, check out this site: http://www.simpleliving.net/default.asp
