A back-to-nature retreat near Dixon, Missouri
                                                    www.rockeddy.com       February 2009,

Shorter vacations, closer to home are the trend, say travel experts.  Yes, financial considerations are important now, but we still love this kind of short-get-outta-town trip.  Here are some keys to successful quick getaways in our opinion: 1) visit a location that offers a substantially changed environment from home. 2) Abandon stress.  Plan a relaxing experience.  3)  Learn something new while you are away.  Brush up on the history of the place.  Talk to folks with new points of view.  Discover a new flower, bird, tree.  Add to your knowledge. Make some memories.  The possibilities are endless.  You'll come away refreshed.

Simplify, simplify, simplify!  This mantra is probably good advice anytime, but in these tough and stressful economic period, it strikes a nerve in larger numbers of folks. The concept is simple enough: decide what is most important to you, what is necessary.  Eliminate the rest.  The payoff comes in less stressful, more purposeful living.  Here are some ideas

High water, washed out roads, and the chance of getting lost are all possible here in the country, especially during spring.  That is why we recommend that you follow our directions for arriving at Rock Eddy Bluff Farm.  We route you mostly on paved roads.  Easy to follow.  If you care for a scenic country drive on back roads once you are here, we'll send you out with instructions.
You'll find our directions in the brochure we'll send you with your reservation.  They are also on our website http://www.rockeddy.com/location.htm  Unless you are an 'ol hand' at Rock Eddy Bluff it is probably best not to trust the routing given to you from your GPS or mapping program.

Take a trail less traveled.   Take a quick stroll downhill to the river.  From there follow the narrow trail up to the scenic rock point and Indian House Bluff (Tom's boyhood home).  Or take the level woodland trail to Bull Lizard Point.  Always enjoyable is the trail to Clifty Creek Natural Bridge in beautiful Clifty Hollow.  The full loop is about 2 miles and brings you in contact with varying topography of the beautiful variety.

Girls or Guys Weekends are  popular. Many groups of friends return year after year.   Here's a photo of one gals group taking time out for a little therapeutic silliness.   Guys groups often get into fishing or just telling lies around the campfire.  For both, the calming influence of nature and scenic surroundings seem to renew old bonds.

Find your getaway dates.  It's east! Go directly to our availability calendar. You can enter the date you would like to arrive or page through the calendar for available dates.  (Each screen will show a two-week frame.)  After finding the dates you want, there are two options:  1) push the "Make a Reservations Request" button at the bottom of the calendar.  This brings up a form for an on-line request.  Or,  2) Call us by phone : 573-759-6081.  Love to have you!

Do I need a fishing license to wet a line at Rock Eddy Bluff Farm?   The rules say that a general permit is not needed by: "any Missouri resident 65 years of age or older, and any person (resident or nonresident) 15 years of age or younger. Fishing licenses can be purchased locally or on-line.   The complete rules, along with fishing tips and other good info and on-line permits can  be accessed on the web at the Conservation Department site.   Here is a good page to start with:   http://www.mdc.mo.gov/fish/

We've been away.  In case you noticed, we have not been open for guests for several weeks this winter.  Never fear, we are back at it.  Medical issues ate into our free time, but there was enough left over for a wonderful trip to Southeast Asia, ending in Hong Kong, where this picture was taken.  We do share pictures and stories for those of you who are as thrilled with travel as we are.

All our best from the Bluff, Tom & Kathy  Email: Welcome@rockeddy.com    573-759-6081
