Its been a beautiful spring
here in the Ozarks. Gorgeous days, critters having young
ones everywhere. Recent rain has the hills in
"frenzy of green." We have been overrun with
wild turkeys. Noisy gobblers in the mornings, then
the turkeys on the move during the day.
Now
is a top notch time for coming to the hills. Enjoy a day
on the river or up Clifty Creek. Hike to woods. Entice
some fish. Our Amish friend, Annie, has her greenhouse
open. Good place for bedding plants, garden
plants. Often some unique varieties.
There are now two golf
locations in Dixon. The restaurant in a cave is open for
another year. And there is always
shopping.....antiques....maybe a country auction.
Country roads call.
Good availability
right now in The Line Camp Cabin and the log cabin, Aunt
Phoebe's Perch. The cabins permit spring to be
observed up close and personal.
Secluded....natural. Best stays are before the weather
heats up.

Spring
flowers for Mothers' Day (Secrets of a country swain)
Cut
flowers are okay! They'll do when you can't find your
own...say in winter. But now is a fine time to
pick a spring bouquet for Mamma. Sweet William is
abundant. Black-eyed Susans...more. Hold them out
to her. Make a speech.
Fold
in a love note. Yep, in your own hand
writing. Print it on anything. A Big Chief
tablet. A hanky. A candy wrapper. Use your
imagination.
One
more thing. Don't let these ideas out....this
stuff is between us. We don't want to put Hallmark
and the flower shops out of business.
Here's
a nifty recipe: Frozen Lemonade
Cake
4
eggs, separated
1 pint whipping cream
1 cup sugar
2-3 lemons
2 package ladyfingers
6 Tbsp lemon juice or more
Beat
egg yolks, sugar, lemon rind and juice. (Use rind from 2
lemons,
then squeeze for 6 tablespoons juice) Beat egg whites; fold
into
mixture. Beat cream; fold into mixture. Line a 10 inch spring
form
pan with ladyfingers on bottom and sides. Pour mixture into
pan and
freeze. Serve with fresh or frozen strawberries.
"This
is so delicious
and so pretty. Everyone likes this.
Bluegrass
here Memorial Day Weekend
If
you are a bluegrass fan, it doesn't get much better than the
Dixon Bluegrass Festival. Big show and one of the oldest
in the state. Its located near Dixon on a large
park. Nice folks and some rousin music.
If you can't make this one, aim for September when they do it
all over again on Labor Day weekend.
