An Ozark Getaway and Vacation retreat. ( On the scenic Gasconade river near Dixon, Missouri)

Country Pleasures and activities you'll discover...

Do absolutely nothing! It is up to you! Simply relaxing in the spectacular natural setting is perhaps our most popular activity. But, if you are ready to be active, the river, hills and forest await.  Relax in an Adirondack chair in summer, read and repose by the fire in winter. Listen to the silence, the birds, the forest noises. Count the stars!

Canoe, fish, explore the river. Follow our winding track to the river where canoes for the use of our guests await.  Fish this Ozark stream, or simply explore the area by canoe. A large gravel bar provides an excellent place to swim, lunch, or relax.  We provide canoes at no charge.   For longer floats down the river, we recommend two canoe outfitters upstream who work on both the Gasconade and Big Piney Rivers.  (See our links page for contact information or call us for phone numbers.)

Hike, explore Ozark hills. There are roughly 150 acres of hills, hollows and woods to for you to explore. Nearby is pristine Clifty Creek Natural area and Natural Arch.

Bicycle back roads. Bring your own mountain bike or comfort bike for some great exercise and pleasant scenery along country roads hereabouts.

Bird & Wildlife Watching are activities enjoyed by many of our guests. In addition to a large assortment of song birds, within view of the bluff are a large rookery of Great Blue Heron nests, and the nest of a pair of resident Bald Eagles. In spring, summer and fall, large numbers of buzzards soar above the cliffs. Wild turkeys, deer and small game are plentiful.

Photography and Art Most guests enjoy photography. The surroundings also lend themselves to painting and sketching.

Horses too!  Bring your own horse for a ride in the country during your stay.  Pens and corrals are close by for your animals.

Country festivals, fairs,& auctions can be a real treat if you understand that you are a long way from Disney World.  The Maries County Fair is held each Labor Day weekend.  Dixon "Cow Days" celebration is also held in September.  Farm auctions and estate auctions are held regularly during the warmer months.

Small Amish Settlement nearby.  Some folks like to visit the small group of Amish not far away. More information. While they are not commercial, they do have a Greenhouse which sells plants, and also a young family who build comfortable deck and porch furniture from native red cedar.  They also sell organic beef and pork along with free range chickens.  Other Amish farms may advertise produce in season such as blueberries, tomatoes, corn, and eggs.  Ask for directions to find this group of Amish farms.
